Marjorie "Marge" O. Obert, 102, of Union City, passed away, Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center, Erie. She was born on April 14, 1922 in Athens Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania a daughter of Merle W. Ongley and Blanche Jones Ongley. She married Charles D. Obert on December 12, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a Bloomfield High School graduate and following graduation she attended Jamestown Business College for two years. Marge was employed as a bookkeeper for Kepler Hotels and the secretary for the Dean of Education at Edinboro University before becoming a homemaker and caring for her family.
Marge was a member of Union City First Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and was known as a prayer warrior for anyone who called. Sharing her faith was very important to her. She was involved with Women's Aglow and Prison Ministry at Cambridge Springs Women's Prison and was a spiritual advisor at Erie County Prison. Marge also ran Release Time for Religious Education at Union City Schools and was known affectionately as "Mother Marge" to many people.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, gardening, swimming, golfing, baking, entertaining, and being an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
She is survived by a son, Darrell D. Obert and his wife Brenda of Union City; six grandchildren, Scott E. Obert and his wife Jennifer of Mayville, New York, Mark L. Obert of Girard, Maria G. Good and her husband Chris of Fairview, Joanna R. Richard and her husband Tyler of Warren, Pennsylvania, Andrea C. Campbell and her husband Jeffrey of Erie, and Stephen D. Obert and his wife Nikki of Edinboro; nineteen great grandchildren; a sister, Arnie Green and her husband Alan of Erie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
In addition to her husband, Charles D. Obert; she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eric C. Obert; a daughter in law, Kathleen P. Obert; and a sister, Doris Fullom and her husband Gerald.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Thursday, July 11th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Union City First Baptist Church, 16 South Street, Union City. An additional calling hour will be on Friday, July 12th at 10:00 am to 11:00 at the church with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Rob Weaver, officiating.
Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First Baptist Church for their Community Outreach Program.
