Stanbic Bank Uganda Empowers Karamoja: Women, Youth & Farmers Thrive with Inclusive Banking (2025)

In a powerful display of community support, local leaders in Karamoja have praised Stanbic Bank Uganda's unwavering dedication to empowering women, youth, and farmers. But here's where it gets controversial: is this more than just a feel-good story?

During the grand opening of Stanbic's revamped Moroto Branch, an impressive facility designed to enhance customer experience, local leaders commended the bank's inclusive banking agenda. This agenda, they say, has been instrumental in providing affordable credit, digital inclusion, and community partnerships, all of which have contributed to the region's growth and development.

Mumba Kalifungwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, reaffirmed the bank's commitment to driving Uganda's growth through inclusive financial solutions. "Karamoja is a region of immense potential, and our role is to ensure that potential translates into prosperity for all, especially those who have been historically marginalized," he stated.

Justin Tuko Sam, Resident District Commissioner for Moroto, shared a personal anecdote, highlighting the bank's role in safeguarding people's money through innovative digital solutions. "When we talk about protecting gains, it's not just about infrastructure; it's about preserving partnerships and institutions that empower communities," he emphasized.

Kutosi Kassim Nasibu, Chief Administrative Officer for Moroto District, echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the bank's support in accelerating district projects and empowering civil servants. "Stanbic has been a true partner in our journey towards progress," he said.

Reverend Father Henry Drajeru of St. Kizito Parish Nawoy commended Stanbic's role in transforming the local economy through financial literacy and digital access. He urged the bank to extend its environmental initiatives to Karamoja, highlighting the region's need for ecosystem restoration.

With two branches and over 80 agent banking outlets in Karamoja, Stanbic Bank is making banking more accessible to remote communities. The bank's Positive Impact framework focuses on financial inclusion, enterprise growth, agri-trade investment, and climate-smart interventions, particularly for women, youth, and farmers.

"This new branch is a symbol of our commitment to Karamoja's progress. We will continue to invest, innovate, and walk alongside you as a trusted partner for growth," Kalifungwa concluded.

But here's the part most people miss: is this just a public relations move, or is Stanbic genuinely committed to making a positive impact? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's spark a conversation about the role of banks in community development.
